Most common dental diseases are Periodontitis (Disease of Gums) and Dental Caries. For gum disease, the main reason is Plaque. For Caries, the prime reason is accumulation of food particles in to the inherent pits and fissures of natural teeth and in between the teeth, besides trauma.
Preventive dentistry is all about taking measures before the disease starts, so that you can save yourself from physical, psychological and economical drainage in curing the dental diseases. Some one has rightly said, “Prevention is better than Cure”.
Prevention or Care involves both You and Me. You, as it is your duty to religiously follow the oral hygiene instructions given to you and Me to guide you for proper oral hygiene habits and if needed intervene to prevent the developing or potential problem in it’s bud.
Preventive Measures for You as Instructions from Me:
- Brush your teeth 2 times a day. Once in the morning and once before going to bed in the night.
- Follow the proper brushing habit. Else you may damage your gums and teeth near the gums.
- Flossing and use of other interdental aids as recommended to clean the space in between the teeth.
- Massage your gums with finger after brushing your teeth.
- Healthy eating habits to keep your health in general fit and fine.
- Limit the frequency of munching on sweets, candies, biscuits, etc. As it takes 45 minutes for your saliva to prevent the damaging effect of these. So, more often you eat, more often your teeth are exposed to it’s damaging effect.
- Especially diabetic patients should keep a check on their blood sugar level.
- Follow the regular Oral Prophylaxis schedule as charted out by dentist.
